The holiday spirit was on display again at Hidden Treasures in Abbotsford this past Friday, when a group of staff and volunteers put the last touches on gift bags for women at the Warm Zone.

A drop-in emergency and cold weather shelter in downtown Abbotsford, the Warm Zone offers warm meals and a place to sleep for women who find themselves on the street.

Each gift bag included toiletries, holiday treats, warm clothing, and a Christmas card. Some volunteers helped by knitting socks, scarves, and toques; others donated items and helped prepare and deliver the gift bags. In total, the group sent over 20 gift bags.

“We’ve been a part of the downtown community for over two decades,” said Maggie Klassen, Store Manager at Hidden Treasures, “And it’s always a pleasure to share Christmas cheer with women at the Warm Zone.”

The Warm Zone is run by SARA For Women, a local non-profit that provides refuge and community resources to women. The organization operates transition houses in Abbotsford and Mission and has 22 beds available for women and children in crisis.

This is the fourth year that Hidden Treasures has sent gift bags to the Warm Zone.
